What is a cocoon diaper
Pediatricians agreed that the baby needed loose swaddling. But after birth, babies feel protected in a confined space and often get lost and flinch from their own movements. And not all modern mothers have swaddling skills.
A diaper is a cocoon, the best thought-out option, an invention of recent years that will make everyday life easier for mom and baby. A cocoon is a fabric product that is shaped like an envelope. It closes with Velcro or zipper with or without a collar. The baby in such a diaper is reliably protected, its use facilitates the feeding process. How to choose a cocoon for a newborn
Children's stores offer cocoon diapers with Velcro and zippers, and nesting dolls. The fastest process of swaddling occurs with a matryoshka doll.
This diaper looks more like a sleeping set, inside which there is a lot of space for the baby to move. But babies who are barely born are still involuntarily frightened by freedom of action. This cocoon-bag is more suitable for children of several months who are able to control their movements. It is better to wrap newborn babies more compactly. For these purposes, you should choose a cocoon with Velcro. Velcro diapers for newborns tightly wrap the baby's body, creating the effect of a mother's womb. A cocoon for newborns instead of a diaper is a good alternative if you choose it correctly.
Reviews from mothers about Velcro diapers
Irina, 24 years old (Stavropol): I was never able to master the art of swaddling with classic diapers. The child kept pulling out his hands and waking himself up during sleep. My salvation was the Velcro cocoon. Great stuff! It saves a lot of time and the baby never gets unswaddled.
Kira, 28 years old (Izhevsk): We swaddled for up to six months. Without diapers, the child simply could not sleep. He started all the time in his sleep and woke up. We had a lot of cocoon diapers: both warm and thin - for different occasions. Yes, they cost much more than classic ones, but they are also much easier and more convenient to use!
Vera, 25 years old (Moscow): The child’s godmother gave us a Velcro diaper. At first I thought it was a useless thing. But I soon became convinced that it was really convenient to use. I swaddled my daughter only for sleep for the first 1-2 months. Then they made do with ordinary clothes.

Size
The sizes of cocoon diapers depend on the manufacturers. Conventionally, they are united in three sizes in increments of 3 months. (S) is designed for children from birth to 3 months, the baby’s approximate height is 62 cm.
(M) from 3 to 6 months 68 cm.

Important! The size of the diaper-cocoon should correspond to the baby’s height. Using small or large sizes is harmful for the full development of the baby.
Cocoons of different sizes differ not only in length, but also in the width of the neckline.

Bed sheet material
All baby diapers - cocoons are sewn with maximum consideration for the characteristics of the baby's skin. The seams of diapers are usually sewn on the outside so as not to injure the baby. Sticking threads in places where the product is fixed indicate poor quality work.
Important! Only natural, hypoallergenic fabrics should be used.
The material is chosen according to the time of year. For winter, flannel or flannel is considered the best option (warm fleece will keep you warm in cold weather). For the off-season, it is advisable to use a cocoon made of knitwear (the material has excellent stretch, does not shrink, and does not cause redness of the skin). The summer option is a cotton diaper (the thin fabric allows air to pass through well, the body breathes, and the baby does not overheat). In summer you can also use a cocoon made of poplin and calico.
Design
Manufacturers are still trying to divide their product line into cocoons for boys and young princesses, although universal models are no less popular. The design of cocoon diapers for boys often uses a marine theme. These models have blue stripes, twine, and stickers. Interesting sets of cocoons with caps made in the same style.
Diapers for girls are made of lace, in delicate colors. The lace must be natural. Rhinestones, pearls, satin bows, butterflies, embroidered patterns, and buttons are often used as decoration.
A fairly new direction is patchwork, sewing from scraps. Cocoons using this technique are sewn from ready-made scraps. The design of such products depends on mixing colors and patterns.
In winter, warm knitted wool cocoons are popular. Rice. knitted They contain natural wool. Sometimes cocoons are produced with a solid or removable hood. Convenient models are transformers.
It is advisable to choose the colors and decor of the cocoon on the principle that it is beautiful, but not always useful. Children are scared of bright, flashy colors, and ruffles and appliqués can come off. Curious little ones put everything in their mouths, so you need to be careful.
Advantages and disadvantages
The main advantage of such diapers is that swaddling will happen very quickly. Thanks to the product with Velcro, not only young mothers, but also fathers can cope with such a difficult task.
Since such models have convenient Velcro, if necessary, you can easily unswaddle your newborn to change a diaper or vest. The process will not take much time and the child will not be alarmed. In addition, this diaper is very convenient to carry your baby to a doctor’s appointment. The pediatrician will be able to quickly undress the baby to begin the examination.
Another plus is that the final result of swaddling is very high quality and dense. At the same time, the child does not feel very constrained, he is comfortable, he can move calmly, but at the same time he will not be able to undress himself. The product allows you to wrap your baby in such a way that ultimately there are no folds or folds that rub the skin and cause discomfort to the baby.
During swaddling, the upper edge of the product is fixed so that the baby cannot remove his hand independently. This is very convenient, because to achieve a similar result with a regular diaper, mothers have to wrap the baby very tightly.
In addition, young parents can easily choose any color and pattern for their baby. Thanks to the diaper, the baby will always look stylish and neat. Warm options are often made from materials that can easily replace a light autumn blanket.
If we talk about downsides, then of course there are. Unlike a regular diaper, this product with Velcro cannot simply be placed under the baby; it cannot be covered with it or used as a towel, as is usually the case. Another disadvantage is that over time the Velcro weakens, which affects the quality of swaddling. The value of Velcro often disappears due to frequent washing.
Benefits of a cocoon for newborns
A cocoon for a newborn is superior to traditional diapers in many ways:
- Wrapping a baby in a cocoon will not be difficult; all family members can handle it. Which will help free up some time for a nursing mother.
- A cocoon-shaped diaper is intended for several months; for 3 months, several such diapers will be enough, which will save you from a mountain of washing and ironing
- The cocoon is wide enough for free manipulation of the baby’s arms and legs, which is similar to free swaddling, but you won’t have to expect troubles in the form of a baby’s night or arm coming out.
If desired, you can secure one part with a diaper. Leave the arms or legs open. It's easy to change a diaper without completely undressing your baby.
How to use
No special knowledge or skills are required to use the cocoon diaper. In any case, maternal instinct will tell you whether the baby is comfortable or not. First you need to open the diaper and place it in the center of the child, so that the shoulders are at the level of the upper edge of the diaper with the legs towards the cocoon pocket. Place and spread the baby's legs in the pocket. We alternately wrap the child with the left, then the right edges. The ends are secured with Velcro.
The zippered newborn swaddle simply unzips in the center, places the baby inside and zips it up.
