Chicken broth for a child: benefit or harm?

Many parents of children who are already starting to eat “adult food” want to know how to properly cook meat broth for their baby, so that the broth can be used to prepare rice, pasta, mashed potatoes and other dishes for their baby.

Here are the best baby food broth recipes that freeze very well in the freezer (if you freeze baby food in cubes) and are delicious for your baby.

As you know, soups are prepared using meat broth. But not everyone knows that good soup comes from tasty broth, properly prepared.

The benefits of soups for a child's digestion

Soup is an indispensable dish for children and adults. It will help infants improve digestion, is easily digestible and provides the body with the necessary fluid, replenishing the water-salt balance.

The products in the soup retain a maximum of nutrients that are so necessary for a growing child's body. Boiling is a gentle cooking method compared to stewing and especially frying. The first courses are needed to ensure the digestion of the second ones. That is why it is customary to start a meal with them.

When to offer soup to a baby

From what months can you give your baby soup?

  • Until six months, the baby does not need additional nutrition other than breast milk;
  • If the baby has health problems, is not gaining weight well, or symptoms of anemia are noticed, pediatricians may recommend earlier introduction of complementary foods;
  • It is often recommended that formula-fed babies be offered adult food at 4-5 months of age.

First soup

From what month can you give your baby a banana?

The first soup is prepared in water with the addition of vegetables. Vegetables that the baby has tried and is already accustomed to are placed in the soup. It is not recommended to add salt, much less add other spices.

Note! The dish should be liquid so that the baby does not have problems swallowing. Be sure to cool to a temperature of 40 degrees. For the first time, offer your child half a teaspoon and monitor his reaction.

When to give chicken broth

It is recommended to postpone the introduction of chicken broth until 8-9 months of age. At the same time, pay attention to the child’s reaction. Chicken meat is considered quite allergenic and can lead to rashes or other signs of intolerance. Then it’s worth holding off on introducing the dish.

When to give meat broth

Meat broth is introduced into the diet after 10 months, often closer to a year. This is explained by the fact that the liquid immediately enters the intestines, substances from food end up in the general bloodstream. As a result, the liver begins to work hard to protect the body, and uric acid in the blood reaches its limits. Therefore, in order not to overload the imperfect organism of the baby, you should not rush to introduce meat broths.

In general, children perceive chicken broth very positively. The dish is tasty, you can drink it, the well-cooked meat is easy to chew. We advise you to prepare several dishes for your baby that he will definitely like.

Soups in complementary feeding for infants

How to accustom your child to a sleep and feeding schedule

Soups in complementary feeding for infants should contain only those foods that the baby is already familiar with. There is no need to use spices, including salt, or frying for up to a year. Soups for children under one year old, the recipes for which are quite simple, are varied. Every child will find a dish to their liking.

From 5 months to a year

From 5-6 months you can offer your baby soup made from zucchini, broccoli, and cauliflower. These vegetables are the first to be introduced into complementary foods and usually do not cause allergies.

How to cook soup for a 7-8 month old baby depends on chewing skills. At this time, potatoes and carrots are introduced; they can be chopped with a blender or fork. Some children are already coping with microdoses, others eat only liquid foods.

Then, in the ninth to tenth month, meat is added to the soups:

  • rabbit;
  • turkey;
  • chicken.

They contain proteins needed by a growing baby and are easily digested by an imperfect digestive system. It is better to add products to an already prepared dish or use secondary broth. The broth can be given to the child in small portions.

You can now enter:

  • white cabbage;
  • onion;
  • tomatoes;
  • beets.

You need to remove the skin from the tomatoes. As the year approaches, fish soup is prepared and beef is added to the diet. Again, you should refrain from broth made from these ingredients for now. River fish is considered less allergenic.

When and how to introduce meat complementary foods?

The baby begins to be introduced to meat at about 8-9 months. In some cases (underweight, severe anemia, severe lack of B vitamins), meat may be prescribed a little earlier - from 7, and sometimes even from 6 months. But such a decision must be made by the doctor observing the baby. Still, meat, as an animal product, requires considerable tension in the digestive tract for digestion and assimilation, so there is no need to rush with it.

In the case of meat, unlike all other types of complementary foods, the age of introduction very much depends on whether we introduce industrial or home-cooked products. The fact is that meat purees prepared in industrial conditions are most often homogenized, that is, the membranes of muscle cells are destroyed by high pressure. Such processing of meat greatly facilitates the process of digestion by the child’s body. Homemade purees leave the cell membranes intact, making digestion and absorption more difficult. That is why meat in the form of homogenized purees is recommended for babies from 8-9 months, and “homemade” meat puree should be served to the baby no earlier than 9-10 months.

For the first acquaintance, rabbit and turkey are best suited: they are the least allergenic and, at the same time, rich in valuable proteins and mineral compounds. Meat is introduced according to general rules. To begin, offer your baby ¼-½ teaspoon of puree. It can be given in its pure form, or it can be mixed with foods already known to the child - vegetables or porridge. If during the day you do not notice any negative reactions (stool problems, bloating, pain in the abdomen, skin reactions), the next day you can give about 1 teaspoon of meat puree. If everything is fine after this, over the next 7-10 days the amount of puree is increased to the recommended age dose. At 8-9 months it is 30-40 g; by 11-12 months you can give your baby 50-70 g of meat per day. After a week, you can offer your baby the next type of meat. Lamb is introduced last, as it is quite fatty. By-products are best used after 10-11 months. As the baby grows up, the meat puree can be replaced with soufflé or hashish (by 9-10 months), then by meatballs (by 10-11 months) and steamed cutlets (by 1 year). The timing of these “transitions” is very arbitrary and is determined by the baby’s chewing skills and the presence of erupted teeth.

As a rule, meat is given at one of the daily meals - lunch. It is most logical to offer it to the little one along with vegetables. In this combination, the nutritional value of the products increases, as they complement each other well. The meat puree left after feeding (both industrial and home-made) can be stored in the refrigerator in a glass container for 24 hours or according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

As for industrial meat products for children, they are presented in several types: puree can be homogenized, finely ground and coarsely ground. Some manufacturers also produce meatballs for older children. Meat is often produced mixed with offal. Products with a smaller degree of grinding, as a rule, contain some additional ingredients. These may include meat broth, spices, animal fats (butter, beef or chicken fat, lard), vegetable oils, and milk or soy proteins. In addition, forming agents and thickeners are often used - starch, rice flour or semolina. In addition, combination products are widely produced - meat and vegetables, meat and cereals.

It is important not only to choose the right products, but also to prepare them so that the baby gets as much benefit as possible.

Note! The baby should not be force-fed; the task of parents up to one year is to introduce him to a variety of products and food of different textures.

Vegetable soup

Vegetable puree soup is suitable for little ones. It can be prepared from any products familiar to the baby and to his taste. For example, from zucchini, potatoes, carrots or broccoli, cauliflower.

Step-by-step cooking recipe:

  • Wash the selected vegetables thoroughly, peel and finely chop. Usually they are taken in equal proportions, but you can always experiment;
  • Place in a saucepan of boiling water and cook until soft;
  • Grind with a fork or blender, adding water to achieve the desired consistency.

You can add a little butter at the end. Give the baby the soup when it has cooled down.

Consistency of vegetable soup for first feeding

With Chiken

At what age can you give your child chicken soup depends on whether it is cooked in water or broth. In the first case, it can be administered after 7 months, in the second - 8-9 weeks later.

If you plan to use broth, then after the first cooking it is better to drain it. Then pass the finished chicken meat through a meat grinder and return it back to the soup. You can add a little onion, parsley and carrots. All pieces should be small, the carrots must be boiled until soft.

For a glass of broth you will need 70-80 grams of meat. If desired, you can add a tablespoon of milk or a piece of butter at the end of cooking.

With meat

It is better to cook soup with meat in water. Boil the product separately and grind it in a meat grinder. Add onions and carrots to the soup. If desired, you can add any vegetables, such as zucchini, potatoes or broccoli. Flour is used to give a puree-like consistency. A teaspoon is diluted in water and added to the dish during cooking.

The finished soup can be rubbed through a sieve or used in a blender. It is convenient to regulate the density by adding water. For 100 grams of meat you will need about a glass of water, a third of a small carrot and a little onion. If you plan to include other vegetables in the dish, then take about 20 grams of each.

Fish

Soup for a 10-11 month old child can be prepared with fish. Pollock fillet is suitable for it. Do not use canned food under any circumstances:

  • Boil potatoes, carrots and onions;
  • Add the fish, be sure to remove the bones and clean it if necessary. She needs to spend no more than 5 minutes in boiling water;
  • Grind the soup, add a small amount of boiled milk if desired.

For 100 grams of fish you need a small potato, 5 grams of onion and a third of a carrot.

With potato

Mashed potato soup is suitable for children who are still difficult to cope with pieces. It will be a great way to stimulate chewing skills:

  • Wash the potatoes, peel and cut into arbitrary pieces;
  • Boil until soft;
  • If your baby drinks milk, add in an age-appropriate amount. Remember that up to a year it must be diluted with water. Whole milk, both cow's and goat's, is prohibited for such babies;
  • Add carrot juice or cook finely grated vegetables along with potatoes;
  • Cool the dish to body temperature.

For 200 grams of potatoes, 100 milliliters of milk and a teaspoon of carrot juice are enough. You will need at least one glass of water.

Other

Broccoli soup is easy to prepare and very healthy. Boil 100 grams of cabbage and one medium-sized potato. The less water in the pan, the more nutrients will be retained in the vegetables. You can bring vegetables to readiness in a slow cooker. When the vegetables become soft, blend them with a blender. If desired, you can add a little low-fat cream, then the already tasty soup will acquire a pleasant creamy consistency.

Broccoli soup

You can cook the rice and then rub it through a sieve. After this, dilute the dish with boiled milk and add a piece of butter. After 8-9 months, baby soups are cooked with vermicelli. You can prepare a dish of potatoes, carrots and onions, adding a handful of pasta at the very end. It’s better to start with products intended for baby food.

Pork broth

Broth made with pork or chicken with skin is too oily and can cause stomach pain and indigestion in a child. If you want to make a diet version, choose pork tenderloin without lard and remove the skin from the chicken.

Meat broth can be gradually added to a child’s diet from the age of one and a half years. Soups, porridges, and stewed vegetables are cooked on it. The broth makes these dishes more nutritious and tasty. In addition, meat broth is recommended to be added to the diet of children with reduced immunity, anemia, and underweight.

In order for a dish to bring maximum benefit, it must be prepared correctly. We share with you the main culinary tricks.

Before preparing the broth, rinse the meat under running water, remove all tendons, spittle, and fat layers. Place the meat in cold water, bring to a boil and cook for 15 minutes. Drain the resulting broth, refill the meat with water and cook until tender. Thanks to this trick, the broth will be less fatty and strong - just right for baby food.

During cooking, periodically skim the foam from the broth and make sure that the liquid does not boil too much. The result is a clear broth without additional impurities. A little salt can be added 30 minutes before the broth is ready. Spices should not be used: they can irritate the delicate mucous membrane of the child’s digestive tract. But the greens will come in handy. Dill, parsley, cilantro, and celery will enrich the broth with useful substances.

The finished broth should be stored in the refrigerator after preliminary straining. The base for children's dishes is stored longer in clean glass or enamel containers.

Norm of complementary feeding with soups up to one year

Like any new product, soup should be introduced gradually. Even if the baby is already familiar with all the ingredients, new combinations can lead to an unexpected reaction. Therefore, you should not offer your baby a whole plate at lunch.

Serving sizes

You need to start feeding soup with a teaspoon. If the baby reacts normally, offer how much he will eat. In the first days, 3-4 spoons are enough. The amount should be gradually increased so that by the year the portion is 180-200 grams.

Note! It's okay if the baby eats a little more or less. The famous pediatrician, Komarovsky, believes that children themselves know their nutritional requirements very well.

The baby eats himself and with pleasure

Feeding frequency

You can offer soup every day at lunch. Liquid food is good for babies; it normalizes digestion and is easily digestible. The main thing is that the dishes do not contain fatty foods, such as pork, and are prepared without the use of spices. You can add a little salt to your dishes, but remember, the fewer ingredients in the food that change the taste, the better for the baby.

Soup for babies is sure to appear in the diet for up to a year. A sufficient variety of products allowed for introduction allows you to introduce your baby to different taste combinations and find his favorite dish. You need to add foods to the diet gradually, monitoring the toddler’s reaction.
