At what age should it be introduced into the diet?

If your child is not one of the allergy sufferers who react to any new product, then you can introduce cod into your baby’s diet as early as 8 months. Previously, official pediatric recommendations set the age at 10 months, but now the age limit has been lowered.

If a child suffers from allergies or atopic dermatitis, it is wiser to wait until 12 months to eat fish dishes.

To begin with, you should give a teaspoon 1-2 times a week. Gradually the amount of fish can be increased if there is no negative reaction to it. By the age of one, the daily intake of fish for a baby is about 50 grams. But you shouldn’t give cod every day, despite all its benefits - it would be optimal to treat your little one with fish dishes a couple of times a week.

It is quite difficult to teach a child to eat fish after one and a half years, if his parents did not give it to him before this age. Most children who are not used to the taste of cod simply refuse it. But a lot depends on how to prepare and serve the fish to your baby.

Cod liver deserves special attention. If you buy it in jars in which it contains a large amount of oil, then such a delicacy should not be given to a child until at least 3 years old - it will be too greasy. Frozen cod liver followed by heat treatment can be added to a child’s diet after one year.

Fried fish is not given to children under 3-4 years of age. Salted or smoked cod should not be offered to a child if he is under 7 years old.
