Baby's daily routine at 11 months: how to establish

Every mother loves and wants her baby to be obedient and do everything on time. A set daily routine, which must be instilled in the baby from birth, will help cope with this task. Today we will talk about what a child’s routine should be at 11 months old, and what his daily routine is.

What is the mode for?

A daily routine is a certain distribution of time for various activities, which helps to organize the life of mother and baby. Having a daily routine has a number of benefits:

  • This approach promotes the healthy development of the body, because the baby eats food on time, regularly walks in the fresh air and sleeps.
  • Many experts argue that a daily routine can also strengthen the immune system, due to the fact that the child’s body receives everything it needs on time and develops harmoniously.
  • The routine streamlines the life of the whole family, and this helps to avoid fuss and chaos.
  • Also, this approach helps to raise a child disciplined and prepared for kindergarten or even school.

At 11 months, a certain daily routine has already been developed: the baby is able to wake up every morning at approximately the same time, there is also a certain routine for eating, walking and sleeping, as well as evening routines.

Main components of the routine

The daily routine of an 11-month-old baby is practically no different from that of a 10-month-old child. And the same principles can be maintained at 12 months, if parents and child are comfortable. Changes may only affect the frequency and duration of sleep, as well as entertainment and nutrition (slightly).

The schedule includes the following mandatory components:

  1. Nutrition. Parents should pay attention to the diet, frequency of meals and portion sizes.
  2. Sleep is an important component of the regime. The child should get full sleep at night and rest to recuperate during the day. An 11 month old baby can sleep once or twice.
  3. Hygiene is an integral part of life. Parents monitor the baby's hygiene.
  4. Games and activities are necessary for harmonious, timely and comprehensive development, so attention should also be paid to this component.
  5. Walks. A child needs fresh air.

These components must be present in the regimen of any eleven-month-old child, and they are combined and alternated throughout the day.

How to set a daily routine

It is impossible to instill in a child what the parents do not live, and if mom and dad have bustle and chaos every day, it is unlikely that they will be able to raise a disciplined baby, so you need to start with yourself and streamline your daily routine.

  • To establish a routine, you need to try to ensure that your baby wakes up and goes to sleep at approximately the same time every day.
  • It is also important to adhere to the rule that walks and meals are also around the same time.
  • You can also use various hints, at the sight of which the child will understand what awaits him now. For example, before an evening swim, you can have a relaxing massage and prepare your clothes for sleep. This will set the baby up for a night's sleep. Such tips can also be used before walking or eating.
  • Do not forget that each baby is special and has an individual daily routine, which does not always coincide with the daily routine proposed by pediatricians. Of course, you need to try to fulfill it, because this is the best option, but you must take into account the personal needs of your baby.

Baby's diet at 11 months

At 11 months, meals still remain five times a day; if the baby is breastfed, then it continues for at least a year, just like artificial feeding. He typically requires the breast or bottle in the morning after he wakes up and in the evening just before bed. Throughout the day, the baby eats exclusively adult food. The diet may be as follows:

  • 7.00-8.00 – first breakfast, which consists of breast milk or formula.
  • 10.00-11.00 – second breakfast, for which easily digestible carbohydrates are perfect, such as oatmeal, buckwheat, corn or rice porridge, which can be seasoned with butter, milk, fruit or dried fruit.
  • 14.00-15.00 – lunch. Soups, vegetable purees, cutlets or meatballs, as well as fish dishes are suitable for this meal.
  • 18.00-19.00 – afternoon snack, for which fruit or fruit puree, as well as cottage cheese, yogurt or kefir are suitable.
  • 21.00-22.00 – dinner, for which formula or mother’s milk is perfect. As a rule, such a dinner occurs immediately before bedtime.

This is an approximate daily diet. Every mother has the right to swap dishes and pamper her baby with various healthy dishes, the main thing is to try to observe the following:

  • In the morning, food should be nutritious but easily digestible, lunch should be hearty, and dinner should be light but satisfying.

Nutrition

At 11 months of age, meals are five times a day or six times a day if the mother offers the baby breast milk or formula at night. The intervals between feedings are 3-4 hours. The volume of one serving can be individually determined by the baby’s weight, dividing his body weight in kilograms by 8 or 9. So, if a child weighs 10 kg, then he should consume 1100-1250 grams of food per day. The baby's diet already includes many foods. Let's consider the main components of the menu and their daily volumes:

  • Formula or breast milk - 300 to 400 ml.
  • Milk porridge or dairy-free – 200 g.
  • Vegetables in the form of soups or purees – 200 g.
  • Fruits (usually in the form of puree) – 100-110 g.
  • Fruit juice – 90-100 ml.
  • Vegetable oil – teaspoon (5 ml).
  • Butter – 5 grams.
  • Meat purees – 60-70 grams.
  • Fish puree – 50 g.
  • Wheat bread - a small five-gram piece.
  • Children's crackers, cookies – 10 g.
  • Kefir – 100 ml (half a glass).
  • Cottage cheese – 40-50 grams.
  • Egg yolk – half.

Let's look at a sample menu for 11 months of age in the table:

EatingDishes
BreakfastPorridge, baby cookies, water
DinnerVegetable puree or soup, meat puree, some bread and some juice
Afternoon snackKefir and cookies or cottage cheese and fruit puree
DinnerVegetable puree, fish puree, compote or fruit drink

At 11 months, you can begin to develop the chewing reflex in your child. Offer him not homogeneous purees, but those with small inclusions of products. Vegetables can also be served in small pieces after heat treatment (steaming, stewing), for example, in the form of soups or stews. Soft fruits can be finely chopped. Do not dissolve cookies in milk.

An 11-month-old baby can be taught to use a spoon. Purchase a special safe children's device of a special shape that is as comfortable as possible for the child. The plate can be fixed on the table top of the high chair to prevent it from tipping over.

Some babies at 11 months continue to eat at night. This is normal and depends on the characteristics of the child. Still, you should offer your baby breast or formula no more than once, but it is better to replace milk with water or refuse feeding altogether and instead of eating, just try to soothe and put the baby to sleep.

The menus for infants and artificial babies are no different. But a baby who is bottle-fed receives formula milk, and a baby who is fed breast milk is given breastfeeding. The volumes of formula and breast milk are approximately the same. The method of feeding does not affect the main components of the diet in any way.

If your baby eats only the breast and refuses other foods, offer foods carefully, without forcing. Give something new before breastfeeding while baby is hungry. Most likely, the baby is not yet ready for an adult diet; he needs more time than other children.

Baby's sleep at 11 months

At 11 months, the child becomes even more active and emotional. He is actively exploring the world around him, this activity takes a huge amount of energy, and the baby needs a day's rest in order to gain strength and again explore everything around him.

At this age, the baby can sleep 2 times a day, for about 1.5 hours, but experts say that one daytime nap, which should last 2-3 hours, is considered the most favorable. Therefore, it is recommended to gradually transfer the baby to this format of daytime rest, and walks in the fresh air are a great help with this. At this time, children sleep well and can do this for 2-3 hours.

Mommies should not be worried that the baby smiles in his sleep or expresses some emotions on his face. The thing is that at 11 months children see colorful and realistic dreams, which causes such a reaction.

To prepare your baby for sleep at night, you need to carry out special rituals every day that will remind your baby that it’s time to rest. Such rituals can be:

  • Night swimming and relaxing massage before water treatments.
  • Wearing certain clothes. These can be various sleeping suits or nightgowns made from pleasant, natural and hypoallergenic fabric.
  • Pleasant, quiet and soothing music or mother's lullaby.

Many children open up in their sleep and can wake up due to a sharp temperature difference. In the summer, it is enough to wear light and pleasant clothes, but in the winter, warm suits made of suitable fabric that ensure optimal body temperature are suitable. You can also secure the blanket in such a way that it cannot open. For example, you can wrap the edges of a blanket under the mattress or use special devices that are sold in every children's store. However, do not forget that the baby can open up due to the fact that he is hot, therefore:

  • It is necessary to ensure the optimal temperature in the room; it should not exceed 22°.
  • Wear suitable sleeping clothing.

What to feed a baby at eleven months

The diet of a child at 11 months is already as close as possible to the menu of one-year-old children and consists of a large number of products from which you can create a weekly plan for a healthy and balanced diet.

Vegetables and fruits

An 11-month-old child is very good at holding vegetables and fruits in his hand, cut into large pieces and peeled. Under adult supervision, he can be given pears, apples, carrots, bananas, peaches, and beet slices. If the child still has few teeth, or he is choking on raw vegetables, they can be boiled in salted water and cut into small cubes. Fruits can be baked in the oven, adding a little honey (if you are not allergic to bee products) and powdered sugar.

It is not recommended to give kiwi, oranges, pineapples, papaya, mangoes and other tropical fruits to children under one year of age, as they can cause allergies. Also, you should not give your baby dark and red berries: raspberries, strawberries, black currants.

Meat and fish

At 11 months, a child can eat any fish and meat, but the amount of fatty varieties in the menu should be limited and given no more than once a week. This applies to pork, mackerel, salmon and other types of fish and meat with a high content of fatty acids. They are essential for healthy brain function, but in increased quantities can cause indigestion and skin rashes.

You can give your child meat and fish boiled (cut into small pieces), as well as in the form of steamed cutlets and meatballs. Homogenized puree in jars should be gradually abandoned.

Eggs

Eggs are an indispensable product for feeding children of any age, as they contain almost all the vitamins and minerals a child needs and provide reliable prevention of rickets. You can give eggs at 11 months in the form of a steam omelet, to which you can add pieces of boiled vegetables and some finely chopped fresh herbs. It is better to use quail eggs for baby food - they have less cholesterol and more magnesium, potassium, manganese and other mineral salts.

Soups

The soup can be pureed or given in liquid form by adding cereals or bread. Chicken soup, vegetable soups with meatballs, and weak meat broths (made from farm meat) are excellent for feeding children of this age group. You should not give your 11-month-old child soups with beans, peas, borscht, beetroot soup, sauerkraut and mushroom soup.

Cereals and pasta

If your baby has no signs of celiac disease (gluten intolerance), he can be given any cereal. If before this the mother used ready-made products (dry cereals), at the age of 11-12 months they should be gradually abandoned. You can cook porridge with milk, add pieces of fruit or a little honey.

Pasta should be present in the diet 1-2 times a week. Only small-sized pasta made from durum wheat is suitable for feeding eleven-month-old children. It is better to purchase products from this group in specialized children's stores or baby food departments.

Dairy products

Every day a child of 11 months should eat 70-80 g of cottage cheese. Cottage cheese is good for the health of bone and cartilage tissue, and is also necessary for the proper absorption of certain vitamins, primarily vitamin D. At this age, a child can also be given acidophylline, bifidoc, natural yogurt and children's kefir.

Beverages

For drinks, an eleven-month-old baby can be offered sweetened compotes of fresh and dried fruits, berry fruit drinks, fruit and vegetable juices. In the evening, you can give tea from linden and chamomile flowers - it has a calming effect, especially useful for hyperactive babies and children prone to nervous excitability.

Wakefulness

At 11 months, the child is trying to actively explore everything around him, so he crawls a lot, stands up, rolls over and even tries to take his first steps, holding on to furniture, various objects and parents. While at home with your baby, you can play various educational games, do exercises, gymnastics or massage. All this contributes to the harmonious development of the muscular and nervous systems.

During a walk, he looks at everything around him with interest, sitting in a stroller, and happily stomps around, holding on to his mother. Now you can introduce him to the sand, give him leaves and pebbles in his hands. But you just need to do this with extreme caution, and carefully monitor the baby so that he doesn’t swallow anything.

Hygiene and gymnastics

Hygiene for an 11-month-old baby includes regular morning and evening brushing, combing, morning washing and bathing. You can bathe your baby in a baby bath or in an adult bath, in a special seat. Don't leave your baby one step! Offer him bath toys. Water temperature is about 35 degrees.

You need to wash your baby carefully so that he is not afraid of this procedure and does not feel disgusted by it. Avoid getting water into your ears and eyes. Set your own example by washing your face in front of your daughter or son.

Important! Also, after coming from outside and before eating, you need to wash your hands.

Gymnastics should be simple. Together with your baby you can spin, bend over, squat, sit down and stand up, wave your arms, crawl, roll over from back to stomach and back. Show all the movements to the baby. It is also useful to do massage during gymnastics: bend and unbend your legs and arms, gently massage your stomach, back, neck and limbs.

Walks

Being in the fresh air is necessary for normal physical and psycho-emotional development. Oxygen has a beneficial effect on all organs and systems of the body, promoting their proper development and functioning. The longer the baby stays in the fresh air, the better. Long walks also contribute to the body's production of vitamin D, which is necessary for the normal development of the skeletal system and the prevention of rickets.

In the warm season, you can walk for 3-4 hours, in the cold season, depending on the weather, about 1.5-2 hours. During the walk, it is important that the baby actively walks, plays and performs various physical exercises. In addition, during a walk you can also organize a nap. After active work, the child will eat with pleasure and happily fall asleep, especially in the fresh air.

Tips for parents

  • You should not give your child potatoes often. Before preparing it, you need to keep the tubers in cold water for about an hour.
  • You can add a little sugar, salt and finely chopped greens to your baby’s dishes.
  • Fried, spicy and canned foods should be excluded, except for special canned food for children.
  • You should not give foods that can cause allergies - chocolate, citrus fruits, honey.
  • You can now chop food with a fork.
  • At this age, a child may be picky and selective in food. You should not force feed him - he will let you know when he is hungry.

Hygiene procedures

It is recommended to bathe a child of 11 months every day, in the evening. Before the procedure itself, you can do a relaxing massage, the main thing is not to overstimulate the baby, otherwise he will be capricious and not want to sleep.

Before and after bathing, your baby should be given air baths, regardless of the time of year. Air baths are considered the best hardening in the first year of life. It is also very important to instill hand washing after every walk. This is a necessary standard of hygiene, which is important and must be instilled in toddlers from early childhood.

Care

An eleven-month-old baby should be bathed daily. After bathing, air baths and massage are useful. It is better to move gymnastics to the morning hours, since physical activity in the evening can disrupt sleep and lead to increased nervous arousal. Hand hygiene is of great importance at this age - they need to be washed as often as possible, teaching the baby to observe basic hygiene standards.

Video about daily routine

Compliance with the regime at 11 months will allow you to develop a stable schedule of walks, feedings, developmental activities and games and teach the child to properly organize his time. A well-designed routine that takes into account the characteristics and needs of each age group is the key to physical and emotional health in older age.

Regular irregularities in infants

At 11 months, in most cases, a child develops a certain daily routine, and the baby himself sometimes lets him know when he wants to eat and when he needs to go for a walk. If he suddenly starts acting up and refuses to do what he always did, pay attention to the following:

  • The baby may be uncomfortable in the clothes and shoes he is wearing, maybe he is pinching something, or maybe he is hot or, conversely, cold.
  • Perhaps the baby is starting to get sick, it is worth checking the body temperature, skin, perhaps a rash or similar manifestations have appeared.
  • And if his teeth are actively growing, this also creates considerable discomfort, and the child may be capricious and behave restlessly. It is important to check the oral cavity, carefully examine the gums and rule out various rashes on the oral mucosa.

If everything is in order, it means that the baby is not in the mood to perform this or that action. Invite him to do something else, and then ask him to do that action again.

Physical changes

By the eleventh month of life, the baby’s muscular system had completely strengthened. He can stand up without support and walk. Over time, he will hone this skill. The second incisors begin to appear. Typically, children grow four teeth by this age. Don't worry if you have fewer teeth or no teeth at all. This is normal for up to a year.

Weight, height and nutrition are important for the proper development of a child at 11 months. On average, babies gain about 400 g in four weeks. They grow by about 1.5 cm. We must not forget that everyone has their own pace and small differences are not scary.

Pediatricians use special tables that were compiled after studying a large number of babies. According to the indicators of WHO specialists, the lower norm for a boy’s weight is 7600 g, the upper norm is 11700 g. For girls, the requirements are different: the minimum weight is 6900 g, the maximum is 11200. Significantly exceeding the indicators is fraught with obesity, which is clearly not healthy at this age.

The data can be seen clearly in the table below:

IndexBottom lineUpper limit
Boys' weight, kg7,611,7
Girls' weight, kg6,911,2
Boys' height, cm69,979,2
Girls' height, cm67,777,8
Boys' head circumference, cm43,248,3
Head circumference of girls, cm41,947,3

Experts in Russian pediatrics adhere to slightly different standards:

IndexBottom lineUpper limit
Boys' weight, kg8,611,2
Girls' weight, kg8,310,5
Boys' height, cm71,378,0
Girls' height, cm70,176,5

Growth is also controlled. For boys, the lower limit is 69.9 cm, and the upper limit is 79.2 cm. For girls, other values are acceptable. The minimum limit is 67.7 cm, the maximum is 77.8 cm.

In your own daily routine

Each baby is individual, and his needs do not always coincide with what is written in the plan. There are days when he is not so active, therefore, he wants to eat later, which means that the entire daily routine can become floating.

For example, in rainy or cold weather it is not always possible to spend time in the fresh air, and for this reason the child may not want to sleep during the day. This is a normal situation, and it is due to the fact that the baby has not fully used up his energy. Don’t be upset if your daily routine is not as regular as you would like; be attentive to your baby’s needs and create an individual daily routine that suits you.
