What is minced meat and what is it made from?

Minced meat is meat (or fish) thoroughly minced using a meat grinder. Sometimes a number of spices are added during production. It has long become a familiar product in every family.

To get minced meat, you need to grind the product using a meat grinder.

Typically, the following types of meat are used to prepare minced meat:

  • Chicken;
  • Beef;
  • Pork;
  • Lamb.

You can also buy minced fish. The meat is cooked raw or lightly fried, with the addition of salt and pepper. Sometimes, in order to improve the taste of a product, manufacturers may include some vegetables in its composition. At the market and in the store you can find minced meat from several types of meat. Only lamb and rabbit meat cannot be combined with anything, due to the fact that they interrupt other products with their taste and smell.

With rice

Minced chicken balls can also include rice. It is best to take a round white one. Adding rice to the recipe will allow you to save on the meat ingredient and also get a more satisfying dish.

As a result, it can be served even without a side dish. It will be enough to think over the sauce for the treat and take care of an assortment of fresh bread.

Composition of ingredients

For the dish you need to take:

  • chicken breasts – 570-600 g;
  • round rice – 2/3 cup;
  • bun – 270-300 g;
  • garlic (teeth) and onion – 2 pcs.;
  • tomato sauce/ketchup – 80-90 ml;
  • sour cream - 3.5-4 tbsp. l.;
  • salt, spices.

Step-by-step cooking process

The cooking process includes several stages:

  1. Before starting, you should lubricate your clean hands with a small amount of vegetable oil. This will prevent the minced meat from sticking to your fingers and causing discomfort when working. Another option is to periodically dip your hands in a small container of water.
  2. Rice must be thoroughly rinsed under the tap with cold running water. The liquid should eventually become transparent.
  3. Afterwards, you need to send the cereal to cook in a small saucepan with 2 tbsp. filtered water.
  4. When the liquid boils, it is advisable to remove the foam from its surface with a slotted spoon. Then you need to keep the rice on low heat until half cooked.
  5. You will need to remove the crust from the bun, tear the remaining part (crumb) with your hands and pour in slightly warmed milk/water.
  6. Then leave it for some time to swell. And finally, squeeze out excess liquid.
  7. For now, rinse the chicken breasts, remove any films, and dry with paper napkins/towels. Next, chop into miniature pieces. If the housewife has ready-made minced meat in stock, you can use it after defrosting it to room temperature.
  8. The onion needs to be peeled, washed, and cut into quarters. Remove the peel from the garlic and crush it. For example, it is convenient to do this by pressing on the cloves with the flat, wide side of a knife.
  9. Then you should prepare the meat grinder. The chicken with onions and garlic will be passed through it first. And at the very end - squeezed bread. You can also blend the ingredients with a special blender attachment.
  10. The prepared mass should be transferred to a large bowl, supplemented with salt and spices. Any of the latter will do. For example, special mixtures for cutlets.
  11. Already half-finished cereals need to be thrown into a colander and rinsed with ice water. Be sure to let the excess liquid drain, otherwise the meat will become saturated with it and eventually the meatballs will lose their shape.
  12. If the minced meat seems a bit harsh, you can add an egg or tomato paste to it.
  13. Afterwards, you need to form neat little balls from the mixture, squeezing them well so that the pieces do not fall apart.
  14. The oven should be preheated to approximately 210-220°. And coat the bottom of the bowl for the meatballs with sour cream.
  15. Meat preparations must be placed in the dishes tightly to each other.
  16. For the sauce, ketchup will need to be mixed with 100 ml of boiled chilled water, add salt and spices. They will be used to pour the bits into the mold.
  17. Covered, the treat will simmer in a preheated oven for about half an hour. By the way, you can also use a slow cooker. Then the cooking time will be reduced. In it, in the stewing mode, the dish will cook for about 20 minutes.

How to serve a dish

It is recommended to serve the treat hot and immediately after preparation. They should be topped with sour cream. You can decorate the dish with finely chopped green onions, spinach and arugula leaves. The meatballs in the sauce according to this recipe are ideally combined with Korean carrots and cauliflower.

The benefits of steam cutlets during breastfeeding

The beneficial properties of steam cutlets are beyond doubt even among the most skeptical doctors. Indeed, this method of preparation is considered optimal, allowing to preserve the entire nutritional value of the products.

At the same time, the meat contained in steam cutlets contains a large amount of vitamins and protein of animal origin, which is so necessary for a woman during breastfeeding and the child’s body for full growth and development.

Among the main advantages of eating steamed cutlets are:

Safety. After all, steamed cutlets are used even in the nutrition of small children, as well as in the diet. The steaming method is harmless, so the young mother does not have to worry about its safety.

Maximum preservation of the nutritional properties of meat. The vitamin content in cutlets is quite high. It includes vitamin B, calcium, iron, potassium, phosphorus and many other useful substances. Steaming helps the valuable properties of meat to be absorbed faster and easier. Cutlets are heavy food for the body. Steaming them facilitates the digestive process and prevents the occurrence of such phenomena as constipation, disorders, colic, etc. in mother and baby.

You can eat steamed cutlets even if you have problems with the gastrointestinal tract

This is important for women after childbirth, since some of them have problems with their stomach or intestines during this period.

The introduction of cutlets into the diet of a nursing mother is possible from the very first months of a child’s life. With a reasonable approach to the choice of ingredients for steam cutlets, they will not cause any harm to either the woman herself or her child.

The method of preparing steam cutlets does not require the use of vegetable oil, which is used in the frying process

It is harmful to the baby's body.

Lower calorie content, compared to regular cutlets, due to the same lack of vegetable oil fat. Calorie content depends on the composition of the cutlets, and to a greater extent on the meat used. Its indicators range between 150 – 300 kcal / 100 g of product. Steamed cutlets turn out tasty, juicy and aromatic.

Cooking cutlets using a double boiler takes little time, which makes the life of a young mother easier. In addition, this method of cooking does not require constant monitoring on the part of the woman, which gives her an extra opportunity to devote time to the child or simply relax.

There are practically no contraindications to eating steamed cutlets.

Is there any benefit from fried food during breastfeeding?

Today, almost all workers of modern traditional medicine who are in one way or another connected with nutrition are confident that a large amount of fried foods in the diet is harmful to health. What then can we say about a small, just born man, whose gastrointestinal tract has not yet fully matured and needs some adaptation in this world.

If you are a mother who has just given birth to a child, then you should temporarily exclude any fried food from your diet.

Therefore, if you are interested in the question of whether it is possible to fried cutlets while breastfeeding, then it is advisable to replace them with those prepared in a different way, since the taste of the finished product is no worse.

What are the dangers of fried foods during breastfeeding?

According to experts, such processing of products reduces their value, since the process destroys the enzymes necessary for breaking down complex components into simple enzymes. This causes the body to spend much more energy digesting food than usual. In some cases, nutrients are not absorbed at all.

Thus, cutlets during breastfeeding should be prepared in a way that does not destroy enzymes and provides the greatest amount of nutrients.

This can be a steamed or oven-baked recipe. You can also protect yourself from harmful trans fats that are formed during the frying of any food.

In addition, it is believed that fried foods, even if the oil has not been overheated, are quite fatty and can increase the fat content of milk. This will lead to the fact that the mother’s foremilk will become very fatty and the baby will not need the hind milk, since saturation will come quickly. But it is hind milk that is considered more valuable in terms of nutrients for a growing body. Therefore, whether it is possible for a nursing mother to have cutlets prepared by frying is up to the woman to decide, based on the benefits for her baby.

What meat to choose for cutlets

The safety of a dish depends on the type of meat from which it is made. Turkey and chicken are considered the most healthy and suitable. At the same time, turkey rarely provokes allergies. Poultry is suitable as a dietary food, a diet for people with digestive problems. Despite its low calorie content, poultry meat is very nutritious. This product can be introduced into a woman’s diet already in the first weeks of breastfeeding.

Chicken contains protein, vitamins B, K and E, potassium and iron, phosphorus and magnesium. If your baby is allergic to chicken, replace the product with turkey. This meat is considered hypoallergenic, so it is excellent for feeding nursing mothers and small children. Turkey contains iron and zinc, protein. It strengthens the immune system and energizes the body.

In addition, veal, rabbit and beef are suitable for making cutlets. This is a very healthy meat that is quite easily digestible and rarely causes an allergic reaction. They contain increased amounts of magnesium and potassium, phosphorus and iodine, and B vitamins. Such meat will help improve digestion and strengthen bones. For more information about what kind of meat you can eat during lactation, read the article “What kind of meat can breastfeeding women eat.”

It is better not to eat heavy types of meat during breastfeeding. They can cause serious poisoning and digestive disorders in infants. These types include lamb, pork, horse meat, venison, duck and goose. In addition, it is not recommended to consume processed foods. They contain a large number of preservatives, flavors and other chemical additives that are very harmful and dangerous.

Choose fresh meat from a young animal, preferably without fat. Fish cutlets can be introduced into the diet in the third month of lactation. Prepare the minced meat for the cutlets yourself rather than buy it at the store. This product contains a large percentage of waste, including bones, cartilage, etc. In addition, the composition includes various chemical additives.

Contraindications to eating fish cakes during lactation

However, despite the huge number of useful properties, fish cutlets still have a number of limitations:

Tendency to food allergies, especially if the young mother has previously had allergic reactions to fish or seafood. Then there is a possibility that the child could inherit the allergy. The fish in the cutlets is grown in industrial reservoirs and other places unsuitable for fishing. These types of fish may contain salts of heavy metals, carcinogens and other harmful substances. Naturally, such a product is not suitable for making cutlets, since these impurities can enter the baby’s body, which can cause great harm to him. Therefore, the choice of fish must be approached extremely carefully. It is advisable to eat fish that was in the diet during pregnancy.

Introduce new varieties of fish gradually and with caution so as not to harm the baby.

How to live without your favorite food?

Let's consider what can replace familiar dishes, and why some of them will have to be abandoned at least until the breastfed child reaches six months of age.

Potatoes are a carbohydrate food, and during heat treatment they become saturated with starches. Even when boiled, this product is quite difficult to digest, and after frying in boiling fat, the resulting starches dissolve poorly, swell greatly, and fill the small intestine, impairing its motility. It is better to completely exclude this dish from the diet.

Fish, rich in nutrients, should be eaten regularly while breastfeeding. But fried fish can be easily replaced with baked fish in foil - it is more tasty and aromatic compared to boiled fish. If you fry the fish, it will become excessively oily.

Egg dishes can be included in the diet of a nursing mother if the baby is not allergic to protein. Eggs contain many useful substances. Fried eggs can be completely painlessly replaced with boiled eggs or omelettes. Scrambled eggs can be fried in a non-stick frying pan or in a regular one, lightly greased with olive or sunflower oil - such an egg dish will not do much harm.

Classic fried cutlets are a favorite dish of many people. But in the first months after birth, if you are feeding the baby yourself, you will have to do without this dish, replacing it with steamed cutlets made from lean pork, veal, turkey or chicken, liver, and fish.

Fried pies are a dish that you will have to completely give up for as long as possible. The dough actively absorbs fat, it is not always possible to keep track of the frying temperature and the oil overheats, as a result of which the ruddy pie becomes a direct threat to the baby’s health. Baked pies are not so dangerous, but they are also not good for digestion and the mother’s figure.

If a nursing mother is craving seeds, you can allow yourself some pumpkin or sunflower seeds. Sunflower seeds contain a lot of oil; when frying or calcining, it changes its properties and becomes harmful to the body.

The seeds can be eaten raw or pre-dried. You should not overuse sunflower seeds to prevent your breast milk from becoming too fatty. In addition, purchased seeds may contain heavy metals and other harmful substances.

If you really want fried food

After the baby is six months old, you can sometimes allow yourself some fried food. It is important to choose products that require a minimum of time to fry - these could be vegetables, thin cutlets from ground poultry or liver. If eggs can be fried with a symbolic amount of oil, then fish and other foods will require significantly more fat.

To prevent toxins and carcinogens from getting into the milk during breastfeeding, oil should never be overheated during cooking, nor should it be reused.

Which cutlets are best to cook for a nursing mother?

But is it possible to have cutlets while breastfeeding if you prepare them taking into account the needs of the little person? Absolutely yes. The most important thing is to remember that it is better to replace fried foods with oven-cooked or steamed ones, and also use suitable non-allergenic meat or vegetables.

Recommended meat during breastfeeding

Modern doctors believe that meat products should be in every person’s diet, since they provide the body with proteins that are not found in plant foods.

This is especially important for a woman nursing a child. Of course, vegetarians can argue with this, but if you have always eaten meat, then you should not give it up while breastfeeding, experimenting with your health and that of your baby.

In any case, the diet must be balanced, because it is the mother’s body that will suffer first.

During breastfeeding, a limited number of types of meat can be introduced into the diet, since many are too fatty or difficult to digest, while others have an allergic effect on the baby. It can be prepared in numerous ways, for example, it is very simple to make cutlets from minced meat, which, when breastfeeding, are recommended not to be fried, but to be steamed or stewed. What kind of meat can be used for this?

Healthy meat for a nursing mother

For a young mother, it is better to choose meat from a young animal, not very fatty, or even better without fat at all (at least in the first six months of feeding).

The permitted types of meat should be chosen from:

  • turkeys,
  • rabbit meat,
  • veal,
  • Chicken.

Of course, all this must be homemade. Broiler chickens should be abandoned, as a large amount of growth hormones and antibiotics can become a strong allergen for your baby.

In addition, you can use fish meat, which is no less healthy and easier to digest. You can use it to make both cutlets and meatballs. Also very tasty and nutritious vegetable cutlets. They are usually stewed in a frying pan or baked in the oven with or without sauce. Just before consumption, you should make sure that the child is not allergic to the components of the dish.

  • Heavy meats include lamb, pork, horse meat, venison, goose and duck. It may be difficult for your stomach to digest and may negatively affect your baby's stomach. It is better not to use the listed types for now.

  • You should also not cook for a nursing mother using wild animal meat or semi-finished products. In the first case, there is a danger of getting a serious illness if the meat is not sufficiently processed, but in the second, you need to take into account all the chemicals and preservatives that are “flavored” with such products. No one will benefit from such food.
  • It is not recommended to purchase ready-made minced meat. It is better to prepare it yourself, since manufacturers often add a certain percentage of waste to it (bones, cartilage, meat with a suitable expiration date).
  • It is also better not to prepare offal for a nursing mother in the first 2-3 months after the birth of the child.
